A world and ecosystem in crisis

We are facing a sustainability crisis, a multi-faceted global issue that threatens not only our lives but the lives of future generations.

Billions of people globally live on the edge of existence where even the basics are not guaranteed. The problem and the solution to this crisis we believe is found in farming which holds vast potential but requires a fundamental shift in the way we perceive and interact with nature to unlock true sustainability.  

This sustainability crisis is, in part, heavily linked to the plight of subsistence farmers and their families globally. These farmers represent over 500 million smallholder farms and 2 billion people in total, who make up the majority of the world's poorest. They live on less than two dollars per day and live below the poverty line, producing only enough to survive and meet their basic needs, with no safety net or savings to invest in producing better yields.

Equally concerning is industrial and intensive farming, which is marked by extensive monoculture and over-reliance on chemical fertilisers. Industrial farming has disregarded the enduring environmental and social repercussions of its methods, leading to serious consequences such as soil degradation, nutritional decline in foods, water contamination, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

A new model for sustainable agriculture using breakthrough crops to effect transformational change is needed to resolve this. Together we must persevere to change the outcome of this story.

We don't see these challenges in singularity but rather as profoundly connected. The nexus of all of these issues and the solution to these problems is land and how it is used globally for farming. Farmbright has developed a model that we believe has the power to address these issues at scale which will result in a reversal of current trends and will turn surviving to thriving for billions of people. We are more determined than ever that the work we are embarking on will provide positive lasting change and we are committed to achieving this together.
